Children Safe Uganda (CSU), formerly Bweya Children’s Home International,. (BCHI) Reg.No. S.5914 / 8137. is a child and Community development organization, birthed by Mission for Evangelism and Social Work (MESW), which was founded in 1968 by Irene and Christopher Mukasa. It is located 20 kilometers from Kampala the capital city of Uganda along Entebbe road in Bweya-Kajjansi Village. The founders’ vision was to provide a hope to disadvantaged children who were suffering due to various forms of natural and man-made causes. This vision came as a result of Christopher picking a small piece of a torn news paper, seeing a baby being carried by a dog at his mouth! This used to happen so much in the suburbs of Mulago hospital one of the biggest referral hospital in Uganda. After a while, Christopher and Irene had a maid who was pregnant. After delivery, the maid died. They talked to a man who was suspected to be the father of the baby, and denied responsibility. The voice spoke to Christopher in a clear voice that “Take this baby and nurse him for me and I will pay you” Exodus 2:9. – Children Safe uganda
Children Safe Uganda – After a while, Christopher and Irene started getting calls from police, hospitals, among others, asking them to pick abandoned babies to their home. Fortunately or unfortunately, they had no biological child, but God has used them to uplift the plight of underprivileged children all over. Over 250 children have passed through CSU and the ball is still rolling. Currently, Christopher is getting old at his late 70’s, and Irene died in 2009.
